Job Description

Summary

Experienced Criminal Investigator sought to conduct complex investigations, apply enforcement laws, and prepare detailed reports for a federal agency.

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Criminal Investigator (GS-13) to apply federal law enforcement expertise in detecting and investigating illegal activities. This role requires comprehensive investigative work, culminating in detailed reports and briefings.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Apply extensive knowledge of criminal investigative and enforcement laws, regulations, guidelines, and precedent decisions.
  • Identify and leverage significant information sources to detect illegal activity and establish probable cause.
  • Conduct thorough investigations to determine if violations have occurred.
  • Prepare and present detailed oral and written reports and briefings, exchanging critical information.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, performing duties such as:
* Applying criminal investigative/enforcement laws. * Identifying information sources for detecting illegal activity and conducting investigations. * Preparing and presenting reports/briefings through oral and written communication.
  • **Education:** Substitution of education for specialized experience is not permitted for this grade level.
  • **Age Requirements:**
* Must be at least 21 years old and not older than 36 at the time of appointment. * (Exceptions apply for eligible preference veterans or those with prior federal law enforcement retirement-covered service, after accounting for prior service.)
  • **Operational Requirements:**
* Must display and maintain required proficiency with firearms as described in ATF policy. * Must maintain proficiency with defensive tactics as described in ATF policy. * This position requires the employee to carry a firearm and ammunition. (Individuals convicted of felonies and certain misdemeanors, including domestic violence, are ineligible to possess a firearm or ammunition.)
