Summary
Federal Criminal Investigator to conduct investigations, collect evidence, interview suspects, and present cases, requiring experience or advanced education.
We are seeking highly motivated Criminal Investigators (GS-09/GS-11) to conduct complex federal investigations and support legal proceedings. This role offers opportunities for growth based on experience and qualifications.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Conduct federal criminal investigations, gathering and reporting factual information.
- Interview and interrogate individuals suspected of legal violations.
- Organize and prepare evidence for grand jury, hearings, and trials.
- Testify effectively in court.
- *For GS-11:* Develop operational plans and determine investigative priorities.
- *Qualification Requirements:**
- *For GS-09:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-07 level, performing duties such as working on federal criminal investigations, gathering facts, interviewing suspects, organizing evidence, and testifying in court.
- **Education:** A Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (LL.B./J.D. accepted if related); or a combination of successfully completed graduate education (exceeding one full year) and experience.
- *For GS-11:**
- **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-09 level, including developing operational plans, determining investigative priorities, interviewing suspects, organizing evidence, and testifying in court.
- **Education:** A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education (LL.M. accepted if related); or a combination of successfully completed graduate education (exceeding two full years) and experience.
- *Mandatory Conditions & Skills:**
- **Physical Requirements:** Ability to perform duties involving moderate to arduous physical exertion, including walking, standing, firearm use, and exposure to inclement weather. Requires good vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and emotional/mental stability.
- **Firearms Qualification:** Must qualify with and carry a firearm. Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are disqualified.
- **Driver's License:** Possess a valid automobile driver's license at the time of appointment.
- **Training:** Must attend and graduate from the Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP), unless previously completed.
- **Financial Disclosure:** Required to file an initial and annual OGE-450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
- **Age:** Must be at least 21 years of age. Candidates generally must be referred for selection before their 37th birthday, with exceptions for preference-eligible veterans or current/former federal civilian law enforcement personnel. First appointment into a federal law enforcement position must be before the 37th birthday.
