Computer Engineer (Artificial Intelligence Engineer)

Key Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or with specific coursework (differential/integral calculus, advanced engineering sciences).
• Alternative Qualifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer Intern (EI), or Engineer in Training (EIT) registration; successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination; at least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences; or a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., computer science, physics) combined with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.

Specialized Experience (Varies by Grade Level, cumulative for higher levels):

• GS-15 Equivalent (Lead/Expert): Directing cross-agency projects, leading enterprise cloud-native modernization efforts, and advising high-ranking officials on artificial intelligence, cloud, and data strategies to influence Department-wide adoption.
• GS-14 Equivalent (Advanced Senior): Collaborating with senior management to align emerging technology adoption with leadership priorities and conducting cybersecurity risk assessments for artificial intelligence-enabled systems.
• GS-13 Equivalent (Senior Contributor): Applying cybersecurity practices in artificial intelligence and cloud environments, and participating in Agile development teams, contributing to sprint planning or execution.
• GS-12 Equivalent (Contributor): Assisting in the design, development, testing, or deployment of artificial intelligence models and prototypes.
