Computer Engineer (Artificial Intelligence Engineer)

This role seeks an Engineer/IT Specialist to drive critical Artificial Intelligence, Cloud, and Cybersecurity initiatives, modernizing enterprise systems and advising leadership on strategic technology adoption.

• *Key Responsibilities:**
• Direct cross-agency technology projects and lead enterprise cloud-native modernization efforts.
• Advise high-ranking officials on Artificial Intelligence, cloud, and data initiatives, influencing Department-wide adoption.
• Collaborate with senior management to align emerging technology adoption with strategic priorities.
• Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments for AI-enabled systems.
• Apply cybersecurity practices within AI and cloud environments.
• Participate in Agile development teams, contributing to sprint planning and execution.
• Assist in the design, development, testing, and deployment of Artificial Intelligence models and prototypes.
• *Qualifications:**
• *Basic Eligibility (Meet ONE of the following):**
• **Degree:** Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or a program including differential/integral calculus and advanced courses in at least five specified engineering science/physics areas.
• **Combination of Education & Experience:** College-level education and technical experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of engineering principles, evidenced by:

* Professional Engineer (PE), Engineer Intern (EI), or Engineer in Training (EIT) registration/licensure. * Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. * At least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences. * A bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (e.g., Computer Science, Physics) *plus* at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.

• *Specialized Experience (Specific to grade level):**
• **GS-15:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-14 level, including directing cross-agency projects, leading enterprise cloud-native modernization, and advising on AI, cloud, and data initiatives.
• **GS-14:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-13 level, including collaborating with senior management on technology alignment and conducting cybersecurity risk assessments for AI systems.
• **GS-13:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level, including applying cybersecurity practices in AI/cloud environments and participating in Agile development.
• **GS-12:** One year of specialized experience at the GS-11 level, including assisting in designing, developing, testing, or deploying AI models and prototypes.
• Note: Specialized experience may be gained in public, private, or volunteer service. Full-time equivalent is required; part-time is prorated.*
