The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is seeking a Communications Specialist to develop and manage clear, effective communications. This full-time, permanent position, located in Washington, DC, offers a salary range of $84,248 to $147,434 per year, with applications accepted from August 13, 2025, to August 27, 2025.

  • *About the Role:**
This role is crucial for translating complex information into understandable content, supporting organizational goals, and ensuring consistent messaging across various platforms for the U.S. Senate and SAA communities.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Write, edit, and prepare clear, concise, and accessible written materials, including web content, messages, guides, newsletters, and speeches.
  • Tailor policies, reports, presentations, and other documents for non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure timely and accurate information is reflected on Senate and SAA intranets.
  • Collaborate across SAA divisions to gather information, translate technical concepts, and maintain consistent messaging and style.
  • Design and execute communication strategies, incorporating feedback to enhance effectiveness.
  • Support essential U.S. Senate services, requiring availability during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and late nights as an excepted employee.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** 3-4 years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree with 2-3 years of relevant experience.
  • **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or Political Science.
  • **Skills & Knowledge:**
* Excellent writing and editing skills. * Ability to analyze complex information and communicate it clearly to non-technical audiences. * Knowledge of professional communication principles and practices, including audience engagement. * Strong research skills to prepare clear, concise communication materials. * Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. * Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders. * Strong time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • *Desired Qualifications:**
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with proven cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Experience in content creation and editing for publications, websites, and employee portals.
  • Ability to present information for quick and easy reader comprehension.

  • 2+ years of experience in the U.S. Senate.
  • Knowledge of SAA programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
