## Police Communications Specialist (Dispatcher)
Join Georgetown University's Police Communications Center as a Communications Specialist. This critical 24/7 role involves managing emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police and EMS, monitoring security systems, and delivering essential customer service to the university community. This is a demanding, fast-paced environment requiring exceptional communication, multi-tasking, and composure under pressure.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Answer and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Dispatch police officers and initiate EMS responses.
- Monitor university fire alarm and CCTV security systems.
- Provide professional customer service via telephone and walk-up window.
- Operate communication equipment and computer systems (MS Windows).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of general work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and remain calm under stress in critical situations.
- Excellent communication skills (telephone and radio).
- Proficiency in typing at least 35 words per minute.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a 24/7 shift environment (days, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and obtain WALES clearance.
- Must qualify for a Security Officer License in the District of Columbia.
- Must become and maintain NCIC/WALES certification.
- Meet specific legal eligibility criteria (e.g., no felony convictions, US citizen/lawful resident for 10 years).
- College Degree.
- 1-3 years of previous dispatcher or communications center experience.
- Current certifications in CPR, NCIC, APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator, and FEMA Incident Command.
