## Georgetown University Police Department: Communications Operator

Join the Georgetown University Police Department as a Communications Operator, providing essential support to public safety and law enforcement operations. This critical role serves as the primary contact for emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring efficient dispatch and response across campus. You will work in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment, demanding strong communication and multitasking skills.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
  • Dispatch police officers, EMS, and other necessary personnel.
  • Monitor university fire alarm and closed-circuit television (CCTV) security systems.
  • Provide vital information and customer service via telephone and walk-up window.
  • Maintain accurate department records and logs.
  • Assist in training new communications center staff.
  • Represent the Police Department in various committees as needed.
### Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of general work experience; 1-3 years of related dispatch experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and remain calm under pressure.
  • Proficiency in operating computers (MS Windows) and typing at least 35 WPM.
  • Excellent communication skills for telephone and radio interactions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage stressful emergency situations.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a United States citizen or have been a lawful resident for the past 10 consecutive years.
  • No felony convictions or convictions of misdemeanors involving moral turpitude or gross misconduct.
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation and obtain WALES clearance.
### Required Certifications (or ability to obtain and maintain):
  • CPR
  • NCIC/WALES Operator (adhering to FBI Criminal Justice Information System standards)
  • APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator
  • FEMA Incident Command
### Work Environment:
  • This is an On-Campus position within a 24/7 public safety answering point (PSAP).
  • Ability to work various shifts including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
