Summary

Manage multimedia content creation, social media, and web presence for American University's School of International Service.

The School of International Service (SIS) at American University is seeking a Communications Coordinator to create and manage multimedia content across various digital platforms. This hybrid role involves developing engaging content, managing social media, maintaining web content, and assisting with marketing publications.

  • *Responsibilities:**
  • **Content Creation:** Pitch, write, and edit news stories, features, and profiles of faculty, students, alumni, and staff. Produce engaging content highlighting research. Conduct interviews, photography, and videography.
  • **Newsletter Management:** Draft, proofread, and schedule the monthly digital newsletter using Emma and Engaging Networks.
  • **Podcast Production:** Assist in recording and editing the "Big World" podcast, serving as lead producer/editor for approximately half of the episodes.
  • **Marketing & Graphics:** Assist with editing and writing marketing publications. Create compelling web graphics using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • **Social Media Management:** Post and share content across SIS social media channels (Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram). Assist in developing and executing social media content plans and campaigns. Monitor pages, respond to mentions, and attend events (e.g., commencement) for live content collection.
  • **Web Content Maintenance:** Post and edit content within American University's Content Management System (CMS), including addressing accessibility issues. Maintain news and branding content on the APSIA website.
  • **Project & Liaison:** Manage specific communications projects, coordinate with university central units (UCM, OIT) for content distribution, and serve as a liaison for facilities-related signage and swag items.
  • *Work Modality:**
  • Full-time, 35 hours per week.
  • Hybrid 01 schedule: 3 days on-campus, 2 days remote. On-campus presence required for events.
  • *Salary Range:**
  • $26.47 - $29.77 per hour.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years of relevant communications experience.
  • Proven experience creating engaging social media graphics and translating complex information into concise posts.
  • Demonstrated ability to build social media engagement.
  • Very strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to write effectively for web, print, and social media.
  • Solid understanding of website and content development principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize time and manage multiple projects successfully.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • *Preferred Qualifications:**
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with HTML, Adobe Creative Cloud, social media scheduling tools, Content Management Systems (CMS), and SharePoint.
  • Experience shooting/editing high-quality photos (DSLR/mirrorless) and videos (Adobe Premiere).
  • Experience recording/editing audio for podcasts (Adobe Audition).
