The U.S. Department of State, Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (PM-DDTC), is responsible for the critical oversight and regulation of defense trade. This role involves:

• Enforcing the Arms Export Control Act (AECA) and its implementing International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
• Regulating the temporary and permanent export, and temporary import, of defense articles, services, and technical data listed on the United States Munitions List.
