Summary
Ensure aviation safety by inspecting air carrier avionics systems, evaluating programs, and enforcing regulatory compliance.
The Aviation Safety Inspector (Air Carrier Avionics) ensures regulatory compliance and safety standards for air carrier operations, specializing in avionics systems.
Responsibilities Include:
- Evaluating and approving proposals for organizational program changes related to avionics.
- Planning and conducting inspection programs on 14 CFR Part 121 aircraft avionics and components.
- Ensuring assigned organizations are properly structured, staffed, equipped, and maintain adequate training and record-keeping systems.
- Conducting enforcement investigations and preparing reports with recommendations on disposition.
General Requirements:
- No more than two Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) violations in the last 5 years.
- Valid State driver's license.
- Fluency in English.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse interfering with job performance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Requirements:
- Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read typewritten characters (glasses/contact lenses permitted).
- Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
- No physical condition posing a hazard to self or others, or interfering with flying as a passenger.
Specialized Experience (Required):
Applicants must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FG-13/GS-13 (or Pay Band I) level as an Aviation Safety Inspector Air Carrier Avionics 1825. This experience must include:
- Aircraft avionics experience involving maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed avionics systems.
- Avionics maintenance experience on aircraft exceeding 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight.
- Recent aircraft avionics work experience (within the last 3 years) in a repair station, air carrier repair facility, military repair facility, or local, state, or Federal governmental agency. (Recency waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series, if applicable).
