Summary

Seeking an Aviation Safety Inspector to oversee aviation safety, requiring extensive flight experience and specific FAA certifications.

Join our team as an Aviation Safety Inspector, focusing on ensuring compliance and safety within aviation operations. This role involves critical oversight, investigation, and enforcement activities.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Assist, conduct, and perform technical functions related to aviation certification.
  • Engage in surveillance and investigation activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Execute enforcement actions as necessary to uphold aviation safety standards.
  • *General Requirements:**
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Fluency in English.
  • No more than two Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse interfering with job performance.
  • *Medical Requirements:**

Applicants must be physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation. This includes:

  • Good distant vision in each eye (glasses/contacts permitted).
  • Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
  • No physical condition that would pose a hazard to self or others, or interfere with flying as a passenger.
  • For positions requiring aircraft operation: Possess a valid second-class FAA medical certificate and pass recurrent medical examinations.
  • Selected candidates must provide physician certification or undergo an individualized assessment.
  • *Specialized Experience & Qualifications:**
  • Minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS/FG-13 as an Aviation Safety Inspector (GAO).
  • Experience should demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in certification, surveillance, investigation, and enforcement.
  • Current FAA employees in the 1825 series may have recency of specialized experience waived.
  • *Specific Requirements for Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations):**

Applicants for roles predominantly involving General Aviation Operations must also meet:

  • Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with single and multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings.
  • Minimum 200 hours of flight instruction given in an aircraft.
  • Professional flying skill demonstrated by a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating.
  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate (Commercial Pilot Certificates are *not* accepted for this announcement).
  • Minimum 100 flight hours within the last 3 years.
  • Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
  • Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings.
  • Not more than two flying accidents in the last 5 years where applicant's pilot error was involved.
  • Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate.
