Summary

Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) needed to conduct inspections, enforce regulations, and manage certifications, requiring extensive pilot experience.

  • *Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) - FG-14**
We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) to join our team. This role focuses on ensuring aviation safety, conducting inspections, and managing certification activities primarily within general aviation operations (CFR Part 23, Part 135, and Part 91).

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Apply expert knowledge of aviation laws and regulations to inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance activities.
  • Develop and implement new techniques, legal processes, and approaches.
  • Perform expert technical functions for certification activities related to CFR Part 23 Normal Category Airplanes.
  • Support CFR Part 135 air carriers/air operators and CFR Part 91 General Operating and Flight Rules operations.
  • *General Qualifications:**
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • No more than two Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) violations in the last 5 years.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
  • *Medical Requirements:**
  • **General:**
* Good distant vision in each eye (with corrective lenses permitted). * Ability to read typewritten characters without strain. * Ability to hear a conversational voice (hearing aids permitted). * No physical conditions that would pose a hazard to self or others, or interfere with flying as a passenger in various aircraft.
  • **For Positions Requiring Aircraft Operation:**
* Possess a valid second-class FAA medical certificate. * Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.
  • **For Positions Not Requiring Second-Class Medical:**
* Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying minimal medical requirements are met, or * If minimal medical requirements are not met, an individualized assessment will determine ability to perform essential functions.

  • *Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) Specific Requirements:**
  • **Flight Credentials & Experience:**
* Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with single and multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings. * Minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction given in an aircraft. * Professional flying skill demonstrated by a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating. * Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating. * Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours. * Minimum of 100 flight hours within the last 3 years. * Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings. * Not more than 2 pilot-error flying accidents in the last 5 years. * Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate.

  • **Specialized Experience (FG-14 Level):**
* One year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 grade levels. * Experience must demonstrate mastery and skill in applying aviation laws and regulations to inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance. * Experience developing new techniques, legal processes, and approaches. * Experience assisting, conducting, or performing expert technical functions in certification activities (CFR Part 23, Part 135, Part 91 operations).
