Summary
Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) ensuring general aviation safety through regulatory oversight and expert flight experience.
Join us as an Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations), focusing on general aviation. You will leverage your expertise in civil aircraft operations, analyze data, innovate with new technologies, lead policy changes, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Apply extensive knowledge of general aviation civil aircraft operations.
- Collect and analyze operational and strategic intelligence/data.
- Develop new approaches in response to emerging technology.
- Lead significant change initiatives to create or revise policies/procedures.
- Communicate and influence outcomes with both internal and external stakeholders.
- *General Requirements:**
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State Driver's License.
- Fluency in the English language.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
- No more than two Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) violations in the last 5 years.
- *Medical Requirements:**
Applicants must be physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum medical standards include:
- Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read typewritten characters (glasses/contacts permitted).
- Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
- No physical condition that would cause a hazard or interfere with flying as a passenger.
- For positions requiring participation in aircraft operations:*
- Possess a valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.
- For positions not requiring a Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate:*
- Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying minimum medical requirements, or
- Undergo an individualized assessment if minimum requirements are not met but are otherwise qualified.
- *Specific Requirements for Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) - General Aviation:**
- Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with single/multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings.
- Minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction given in an aircraft.
- Professional flying skill demonstrated by a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating.
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument airplane rating.
- Minimum of 100 flight hours within the last 3 years.
- Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours.
- Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings.
- Not more than 2 flying accidents in the last 5 years involving pilot error.
- Possession of a valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
- *Experience Qualification (Equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 - minimum one year):**
Demonstrate specialized experience in:
- General aviation civil aircraft operations.
- Collecting and analyzing operational and strategic intelligence/data.
- Developing new approaches in response to emerging technology.
- Leading major change initiatives resulting in new/revised policy/procedure.
- Communicating and influencing outcomes with external and internal stakeholders.
