The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking an experienced Aviation Safety Inspector specializing in General Aviation Flight Oversight. This role is crucial for ensuring aviation safety through regulation assessment, compliance, and oversight of flight operations and delegation programs.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Assess technical procedures, policy changes, new legislation, and technology to determine impact on aviation delegation programs.
  • Analyze complex data using a system safety approach, including risk and root cause analysis.
  • Compose and analyze a variety of written materials such as directives, policies, procedures, and sensitive documents.
  • Apply knowledge of designees and designee management to oversee aviation activities.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • *General Requirements:**
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • No more than two FAA regulation violations in the last 5 years.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
  • *Medical Requirements:**
  • Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently.
  • Good distant vision and ability to read typewritten characters (with corrective lenses permitted).
  • Ability to hear conversational voice (with hearing aid permitted).
  • No physical conditions that would hinder safe travel as a passenger in various aircraft.
  • **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate and pass recurrent medical examinations.
  • *Flight & Aviation Experience:**
  • Valid or expired Flight Instructor Certificate with an aircraft category rating, or demonstrated experience as an instructor in an approved program (e.g., Part 121, 135, 141, 142, Uniformed Services).
  • Minimum of 200 hours of flight instruction (aircraft or approved flight simulation training device).
  • Valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument airplane rating.
  • Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours.
  • Possession of airplane category, single-engine, and multi-engine land ratings.
  • At least three years of experience with an air carrier, commercial operator, air agency, or an organization involved in airman certification or aircraft operation.
  • Not more than two pilot-error flying accidents in the last five years.
  • *Specialized Experience (Equivalent to FV-I FG/GS-13):**
  • At least one year of specialized experience applying aviation laws and regulations to assess technical procedures and policy impact on delegation programs.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data with system safety principles (risk and root cause analysis).
  • Demonstrated ability to compose and analyze various aviation-related written materials.
  • Knowledge of designee management and oversight.
  • *Highly Desired (Quality Ranking Factor):**
  • Experience in providing direct oversight of aviation designees.
