Summary
Ensure aviation safety and regulatory compliance as an Inspector, requiring significant pilot experience and technical expertise.
Join our team as an Aviation Safety Inspector, focusing on flight oversight. This critical role ensures compliance with aviation regulations, provides expert technical guidance, and contributes to agency-wide safety policies, including UAS operations.
- *Basic Qualifications:**
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State driver's license.
- Fluent in English.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
- Not more than two Federal aviation regulation violations in the last 5 years.
- *Medical Requirements:**
- Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently.
- Good distant vision (glasses/contacts permitted) and ability to read typewritten characters.
- Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aids permitted).
- No physical condition that would interfere with flying as a passenger or pose a hazard.
- **For roles requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate and pass recurrent medical examinations.
- *Specialized Experience (Required for all Inspector roles):**
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13, demonstrating:
- *Specific Qualification Paths:**
- *1. Air Carrier (Flight Oversight) Aviation Safety Inspector:**
- Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
- Valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
- At least one year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 lbs maximum takeoff weight.
- Three years of experience with an air carrier, commercial operator, air agency, or an organization that operated aircraft; with at least one year specifically with an organization operating multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 lbs.
- Not more than two pilot-error flying accidents in the last five years.
- *2. General Aviation (Flight Oversight) Aviation Safety Inspector:**
- Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
- Valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument-airplane rating.
- Valid or expired Flight Instructor Certificate with an aircraft category rating, or experience providing 200+ hours of flight instruction (aircraft/simulator) within an approved program (e.g., 14 CFR Part 121, 135, 141, 142, or Uniformed Services).
- Possession of airplane category and single-engine and multi-engine land (airplane) ratings.
- Three years of experience with an air carrier, commercial operator, air agency, or an organization that operated aircraft.
- Not more than two pilot-error flying accidents in the last five years.
