## Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness - Avionics)

  • *Role Overview:**
Ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations by inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting aircraft avionics systems, and investigating aviation incidents.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Conduct investigations and report on aviation accidents, incidents, and regulatory violations.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed avionics systems on aircraft.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:**
* Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I or FG/GS-13 grade level as an Aviation Safety Inspector. * Demonstrated aircraft avionics experience, including maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed systems. * Experience with avionics maintenance on aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight exceeding 12,500 pounds. * Recent aircraft avionics work experience (within the last 3 years), obtained in a repair station, air carrier repair facility, military repair facility, or local, state, or Federal governmental agency. * *Waiver*: Recency of specialized experience and the need for a valid second-class FAA medical certificate are waived for employees currently in the 1825 series.
  • **General Requirements:**
* High School diploma or equivalent. * Valid State driver's license. * Fluency in the English language. * No more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last 5 years. * No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.

  • *Medical & Physical Requirements:**
  • Physically able to perform Aviation Safety Inspector duties safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Good distant vision in each eye (glasses/contact lenses permitted).
  • Ability to hear the conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
  • No physical condition that would cause a hazard or interfere with the ability to fly as a passenger in various aircraft.
  • **For positions requiring aircraft operation:**
* Possess a valid FAA Second-Class Medical Certificate. * Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.
  • **For positions not requiring a Second-Class Medical Certificate:**
* Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying minimal medical requirements. * Individuals not meeting minimum medical requirements but otherwise qualified will undergo an individualized assessment.
