Job Description
Summary
Ensure air carrier safety and regulatory compliance through investigations, leveraging extensive aviation operations and pilot experience.
We are seeking a highly experienced Aviation Safety Inspector to ensure regulatory compliance, conduct investigations, and provide technical guidance for air carrier operations. This role requires extensive aviation experience, specialized pilot qualifications, and the ability to maintain the highest safety standards.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Assure assigned organizations are properly organized, staffed, equipped, and have adequate training programs and facilities meeting all regulatory requirements.
- Conduct enforcement investigations, prepare reports, and recommend dispositions.
- Investigate public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents/accidents.
- Provide technical assistance to legal counsel and coordinate Minimum Equipment List (MEL) approvals.
- Coordinate non-routine air carrier surveillance with geographic inspectors.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- *Specialized Experience:**
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I, FG/GS-13 grade level in Federal Service.
- Experience must be directly related to Operations (Parts 121 and 135), equipping the candidate with specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties successfully.
- *Air Carrier Operations Requirements:**
- Minimum of 1 year pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 lbs maximum certificated takeoff weight.
- Professional flying skill demonstrated by a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot Standard.
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or a Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
- Minimum of 100 flight hours within the last 3 years.
- Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours.
- Not more than 2 flying accidents in the last 5 years involving applicant's pilot error.
- *Medical Requirements:**
- Good distant vision in each eye (glasses/contacts permitted).
- Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aids permitted).
- No physical condition that would pose a hazard to self or others, or interfere with flying as a passenger in various aircraft.
- Note: Recency of specialized experience is waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series. Qualifications must be met by the closing date.*
