Job Description

Summary

Lead complex federal audits, assess program efficiency, and identify internal control weaknesses, requiring specialized accounting expertise.

Join our team as a Financial Auditor (GS-13 equivalent) to lead and conduct complex audits within federal programs, focusing on financial efficiency and internal control integrity.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Lead and conduct complex audits to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of Agency programs.
  • Identify operating issues and weaknesses in internal controls.
  • Apply advanced accounting and auditing principles, policies, and practices.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • **Experience:** One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service (or comparable outside federal service), demonstrating the ability to perform the duties outlined above.
* *Federal Applicants:* Must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher.
  • **Education (Positive Education Requirement):** Must meet one of the following:
* **Degree:** Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Auditing, or a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration) that includes or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours of business law permitted). * **Combination of Education and Experience:** At least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge, and one of the following: * 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing courses (up to 6 hours of business law). * A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate. * Completion of a degree with substantial coursework in accounting/auditing (e.g., 15 semester hours), successfully worked at a full-performance level in accounting/auditing, and demonstrated equivalent professional accounting knowledge as determined by a panel of higher-level accountants/auditors.
  • **Certification:** Obtain and maintain a Level 2 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program within two years of entry on duty. Failure to obtain certification may result in removal from the position.
  • **Competencies:** Demonstrated proficiency in Audit Planning and Management, Audit Reporting, Communication, and Audit Concepts, Policies and Principles.
