Astronomer

This role requires a highly skilled individual to apply advanced technical knowledge in celestial mechanics, geodesy, and data analysis to critical federal projects. You will be instrumental in processing GPS/GNSS signals, utilizing complex algorithms, and contributing to significant scientific research.

• *Key Responsibilities:**
• Apply specialized knowledge in celestial mechanics, orbit determination, geodesy, geophysics, time series analysis, and statistics.
• Analyze GPS/GNSS signals and process their outputs.
• Utilize advanced software and complex algorithms to estimate GPS/GNSS satellite orbits, receiver/satellite clock corrections, Earth rotation parameters (e.g., pole positions, UT1 values), and related quantities.
• Document technical findings, author scientific papers, and present research results at scientific meetings.
• *Required Qualifications:**
• Proven experience applying technical knowledge in the aforementioned fields, including data analysis software and computer programming/software design.
• Demonstrated experience in analyzing GPS/GNSS signals *or* estimating satellite orbits, clock corrections, and Earth rotation parameters from GPS/GNSS measurements.
• Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as FORTRAN, C, C++, and Python.
• Strong working knowledge of LINUX computer systems.
• Experience in technical documentation, scientific writing, and research presentation.
• *Note: Specific experience at the GS-11 or GS-09 federal grade level (or equivalent private/public sector experience) is required depending on the target position grade (GS-12 or GS-11 respectively).* Applicants must meet basic education requirements for the relevant GS level.
