Astronomer

This role seeks an Astronomer/Geodesist to apply technical expertise in astronomy and geodesy for analyzing and predicting Earth's orientation. We are looking for professionals with a strong background in physics and mathematics, ideally with specialized study in astronomy, data fusion, optimal estimation techniques, or geodesy.

• *Key Responsibilities & Requirements:**
• **Geodetic Data Analysis:** Perform timely analysis and utilization of new geodetic data for the prediction of Earth's orientation in space.
• **EOP Operations:** Participate in and develop new methods and procedures for Earth Orientation Parameter (EOP) operations, addressing complex problems.
• **Technical Proficiency:** Apply knowledge of astronomy and/or geodesy, supported by a background in physics and mathematics. Proficiency in high-level computer languages (e.g., FORTRAN, C, C++, Python) and LINUX systems is essential.
• **Research & Representation (GS-12 Level):** Perform independent research and occasionally represent the department at national and international scientific conferences.
• *Experience Needed:**
• **GS-11 Equivalent:** At least one year of specialized experience demonstrating core knowledge in astronomy/geodesy, computer operations, and EOP development.
• **GS-12 Equivalent:** At least one year of specialized experience, building upon GS-11 level duties, demonstrating advanced technical knowledge, timely data analysis, complex problem-solving, and independent research capabilities.
