Lead nationwide corporate tax strategies and provide high-level legal counsel to IRS officials as Associate Chief Counsel (CORP).

## Associate Chief Counsel (CORP)

This is a senior executive leadership opportunity within the IRS Office of Chief Counsel for an accomplished legal professional specializing in corporate tax law. You will be responsible for providing expert advice and strategic guidance to high-ranking IRS officials on complex corporate tax matters.

### Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement nationwide legal strategies for corporate tax issues.
  • Provide dedicated, high-quality legal advice and support to top-ranking IRS officials.
  • Deliver effective legal services to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategically manage resources, optimize budgets, and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team, fostering accountability and achieving organizational goals.
### Mandatory Qualifications:
  • **Education:** Juris Doctor (J.D.) or LL.B. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • **Bar Membership:** Active member in good standing of the bar of a U.S. State, Commonwealth, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • **Executive Leadership Experience:** Demonstrated progressively responsible executive leadership and supervisory experience, indicative of Senior Executive Service (SES) level managerial capability.
  • **Corporate Tax Expertise:**
* Proven ability to develop nationwide strategies and provide legal counsel to high-profile IRS officials. * Comprehensive professional knowledge and experience applying tax laws affecting corporate activities (e.g., transactions, affiliated groups, M&A, dividends, liquidations, bankruptcies, limitations on losses).
  • **Application Requirements:**
* Submit a **two-page resume** clearly demonstrating the five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) and the Technical Qualifications (TQs). * *ECQs include:* Commitment to Rule of Law, Driving Efficiency, Merit & Competence, Leading People, and Achieving Results. * *TQs include:* Strategic legal advice capability and deep corporate tax law expertise. * Be prepared to address each ECQ during a structured interview with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Review Board (QRB). (Current/former career SES employees and OPM Candidate Development Program graduates are exempt from this interview requirement).

### Desired Qualifications:

  • An LL.M. in Taxation.
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional legal tax experience.
  • Experience supervising many employees through subordinate supervisors, including hiring, developing, and evaluating staff (typically GS-15 equivalent in federal service or private sector).
  • A thorough understanding of the operations and organization of the Internal Revenue Service and Office of Chief Counsel.
