Summary

Manage and preserve analog and tape-based audiovisual collections by applying advanced archival principles and methodologies.

We are seeking a dedicated Archivist to manage and preserve analog and tape-based audiovisual collections. This role requires applying advanced archival principles to ensure the long-term accessibility and integrity of valuable historical assets.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Implement and maintain a sustainable collections management plan for audiovisual materials.
  • Conduct assessment, preservation, and electronic description of analog and tape-based formats.
  • Manage processing, continued acquisition, and digital reformatting initiatives.
  • Ensure efficient access to archived audiovisual content.
  • Apply current archival principles, concepts, standards, best practices, and methodologies.
  • *Qualifications:**
  • *Education:**
  • **Bachelor's Degree:** In Archival Science, or a degree with 18 semester hours in archival science, history, political science, or government, PLUS 12 semester hours in archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
  • **or Combination of Education and Experience:** At least 30 semester hours in the subjects listed above, combined with relevant professional experience.
  • **or Graduate Education:** Three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field.
  • *Experience:**
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal Service, *or* professional experience in archival science or a directly related field (e.g., history, research) involving the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of historical/archival information.
  • **Specialized Experience Required:** Applying current archival principles, concepts, standards, best practices, and methodologies to maintain a sustainable collections management plan for the assessment, preservation, electronic description, processing, continued acquisition, digital reformatting, and access of analog and tape-based audiovisual formats.
  • Volunteer and unpaid experience that builds critical competencies and skills will be credited.
