Summary
Architect (GS-12) specializing in architectural conservation, managing cultural resource preservation, assessments, and treatment plans.
Join our team as an Architect (0808) specializing in architectural conservation at the GS-12 level. This role focuses on preserving cultural resources through expert conservation techniques and effective program management.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Lead the treatment, maintenance, and preventative care of architectural elements, glass, stone/masonry, furniture, metals, and sculptures.
- Perform examinations, analyses, and detailed documentation of specific objects and materials.
- Prepare comprehensive technical conservation reports, including condition assessments, treatment recommendations, and records of work performed.
- Review and provide expert comments on conservation reports for technical accuracy and management implications.
- Contribute significantly to cultural resource stewardship assessments, resource management plans, and architectural conservation plans.
- Manage program duties by developing work plans and schedules.
- *Required Qualifications:**
- *Basic Architectural Qualification (0808 Series):**
- **Degree:** A bachelor's degree in architecture or a related field, including 60 semester hours in architecture/related disciplines (30 hours in architectural design, and 6 hours each in structural technology, properties of materials, and environmental control systems).
- **Combination:** College-level education, training, and/or technical experience demonstrating thorough knowledge of professional architectural principles, methods, and techniques. This must be supported by related curriculum or architectural experience (e.g., 1 year of experience for each year short of a degree, or 5 years if no college degree).
- *GS-12 Specialized Experience:**
- At least one full year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must include all of the following:
- *Preferred Skills (Quality Ranking Factor):**
- Experience assessing and developing treatment recommendations for various types of masonry (e.g., marble, limestone, granite, brick).
- Experience assessing and developing treatment recommendations for bronze metalworks, sculptures, and statuary elements.
