Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner)
Join our team as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) to deliver and improve holistic patient care through collaborative strategies. This role offers opportunities for professional growth and leadership in managing patient panels and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver evidence-based healthcare, managing patient panels or programs.
- Utilize research and best practices to evaluate and enhance patient care delivery.

- Continuously acquire new knowledge and skills to develop expertise in your practice area.
- Demonstrate professional communication and behavior, fostering teamwork.
For APN (NP) III, additional responsibilities include:
- Influence and model expert evidence-based healthcare delivery.
- Lead and implement changes that enhance care quality and timeliness.
- Initiate and lead interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes for patient populations.
- Disseminate acquired knowledge and skills within and outside the medical facility.
Basic Requirements:
- Education: Post-master's, master's, or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from an ACEN or CCNE accredited professional nursing program. (Foreign degrees require equivalency validation).
- Licensure: Active, current, full, and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) license to practice as an NP in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
- Certification: Full and current basic board certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), or Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP) from ANCC, AANPCB, or another nationally recognized certifying body.
Experience Requirements:
- APN (NP) II (Entry Level): No experience required beyond basic education.
- APN (NP) III: Minimum one year of specialized APN (NP) experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level.
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of Primary Care healthcare provider experience.
- Minimum 1 year of VA Primary Care healthcare provider experience.
- Minimum 1 year of Telehealth healthcare experience.
Special Considerations:
- Grandfathering Provision: Current VHA 0610 series APN (NP) employees performing qualifying duties as of 1/29/2024 are considered to have met all requirements for their held grade.
- Graduate Nurse Technicians: Candidates meeting basic requirements but lacking required licensure/certification may be appointed temporarily (up to 1 year and 1 day) as a Graduate Nurse Technician - Nurse Practitioner (entry step Nurse II).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform light to moderate lifting (up to 44 lbs), use of fingers, walking and standing for 4-6 hours.
- Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other.
- Ability to distinguish basic colors and hearing (aid permitted).
