Free Press is seeking a Senior Director of Marketing and Communications to lead strategic campaigns at the intersection of media and technology. This pivotal role focuses on amplifying community voices, promoting racial justice, and strengthening democratic engagement through innovative communications. **Key Responsibilities:** * Lead and mentor the Marketing and Communications department, setting annual/quarterly goals and fostering creative problem-solving. * Drive growth in supporters and engagement across all digital platforms (email, SMS, social media), meeting key benchmarks for membership and online fundraising. * Direct online fundraising efforts in partnership with campaign and development teams to achieve financial goals. * Continuously monitor and implement best practices, new technologies, and ethical online organizing strategies in marketing and communications. * Oversee data analytics and A/B testing to optimize content effectiveness and inform strategic campaign decisions. * Manage the online advertising and acquisition budget, ensuring alignment with digital, programmatic, and fundraising objectives. * Foster extensive cross-team collaboration, deploying digital assets and resources effectively across the organization. * Champion and integrate intersectional race equity principles throughout all communications work and organizational operations. **Required Qualifications & Experience:** * 8-10 years of directly relevant leadership experience in developing and executing successful narrative, marketing, and communications campaigns, particularly for social and racial justice initiatives. * Proven proficiency in setting strategy, marshaling resources, delegation, decision-making, and team management/evaluation. * Expertise in marketing, communications, and narrative strategy, coupled with experience in advocacy for political and cultural change. * Demonstrated skills in designing and executing digital marketing campaigns that effectively grow, organize, and activate online constituencies via email, social media, and other platforms. * Familiarity with key digital platforms such as ActionKit, EveryAction, WordPress, ActBlue, Mobilize, and experience with SEO, email acquisition, and digital ads. * Strong writing and communication skills, capable of synthesizing complex concepts for diverse audiences. **Desired Attributes:** * Deep dedication to Free Press’s mission and a strong commitment to racial equity. * Creative, self-starter energy with a collaborative, low-ego approach to teamwork. * Ability to thrive under pressure, manage competing priorities, and adapt to emergent challenges. * Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to positive team culture. * Comfortable and effective in a predominantly remote work environment, practicing strong digital security. **Work Environment & Logistics:** * This is a senior leadership position reporting to the Managing Director. * Requires flexibility in work schedule, generally aligned with U.S. East Coast hours, with regular evening and weekend availability for urgent situations. * Frequent domestic and occasional international travel is expected. * Location: This position can be a home-based role anywhere in the U.S. or based in our Washington, D.C. office. **Compensation & Benefits:** * Starting Salary: $130,000 (non-negotiable, based on internal parity and competitive benchmarking). * Comprehensive benefits package includes 11 weeks of paid time off (vacation, health-care leave, holidays, and two organization-wide closures), group medical, dental, and vision insurance, short- and long-term disability, employer contributions to retirement plans, flexible spending accounts, paid family leave, potential for a two-month sabbatical after 7 years, and stipends for home office and phone use. **Application Process:** * Complete the online application, providing detailed responses to all questions. * The hiring process typically includes an initial interview, followed by one or two hour-long interviews with team members, and reference checks. * Applications submitted by August 13, 2025, will receive priority review.
