Job Description
Lead strategic climate communications for WWF, developing content and managing outreach to advance global conservation goals.
World Wildlife Fund (WWF) seeks a Senior Director, Climate Communications to lead the development and execution of external communications strategies that advance the organization’s climate objectives. This role is crucial for supporting resource mobilization and ensuring consistent climate messaging across WWF.
**Responsibilities:**
* Lead strategic communications for the Climate Team, including message development, internal communication, social media, and fundraising support.
* Develop and implement communications plans to achieve climate outcomes and raise brand awareness among key stakeholders.
* Manage climate communications staff.
* Lead WWF-US participation in major climate conferences (e.g., New York Climate Week, UNFCCC COP), organizing events and coordinating executive schedules.
* Identify key events to maximize visibility and strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and government institutions.
* Partner with climate leadership to develop and implement communication plans that amplify programs and strategies.
* Develop compelling messaging, content, and stories for various WWF and third-party channels (website, social media, webinars, videos, blogs, op-eds).
* Coordinate climate-related messaging with other WWF conservation teams to ensure a unified organizational approach.
* Proactively identify executive communication opportunities for Climate Team leaders, including speaking engagements and media interviews.
* Produce high-quality written content such as speeches, talking points, and op-eds for senior leaders.
* Oversee the monitoring and analysis of communications metrics (e.g., media coverage, website traffic, social media engagement).
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, environmental issues, climate change, public policy, or business; post-graduate degree preferred.
* 12-15 years of professional communications experience with strong knowledge of climate change.
* Familiarity with top-tier climate conferences and demonstrated experience organizing cross-team participation in climate events.
* Proficiency in social media platforms and ability to produce content for these channels (videos, posts, blogs).
* Proven success in conceptualizing, developing, implementing, and managing communication strategies for diverse stakeholders.
* Excellent writing and editing skills, with a track record of producing high-quality written content for senior leaders.
* Creative and innovative thinking, with experience utilizing a broad array of channels to deliver messages.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with senior leaders, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
* Strong project management skills, including the ability to supervise staff, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
* Ability to travel nationally and internationally (less than 10%).

**Salary Range:** $144,600 - $207,900
**Work Authorization:** Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship).
