Job Description
Seeking a GS-13 Professional Engineer to manage systems engineering projects, provide technical guidance, and ensure configuration management.
This role requires a highly skilled engineer for a federal GS-13 level position, focusing on systems engineering and project management. Applicants must meet foundational engineering qualifications and demonstrate significant specialized experience.
**Key Responsibilities & Experience:**
* Planning and executing systems engineering lifecycle events and activities.
* Providing expert advice and consultation on variables affecting planning, integration, coordination, and critical management problems.
* Evaluating technical proposals, planning, and design documents for technical merit; identifying and resolving issues of project scope, cost, and resources.
* Preparing correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, and/or presentations related to engineering and acquisition assignments.
* Managing multiple projects, often involving planning, development, and implementation.
* Implementing and maintaining configuration management practices for acquisition programs.
**Basic Engineering Qualifications (Meet ONE of the following):**
**1. Education:**
* A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program.
* OR a degree including differential and integral calculus, plus advanced courses (more than first-year physics/chemistry) in five of seven key engineering science/physics areas (e.g., statics, thermodynamics, electrical fields, materials science).
**2. Combination of Education & Experience:**
* College-level education, training, and/or technical experience providing thorough knowledge of physical/mathematical sciences underlying engineering, combined with practical understanding of engineering sciences and techniques and their applications.
* *Demonstrated by ONE of the following:*
* **Professional Registration:** Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state, D.C., Guam, or Puerto Rico.
* **Written Test:** Successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination or the written test required for professional registration.
* **Specific Academic Courses:** Completion of at least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, fully acceptable toward a professional engineering curriculum.
* **Related Curriculum & Experience:** Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited or with 60+ specified science hours and EIT pass) OR a degree in a related professional field (e.g., physics, computer science, mathematics, architecture) combined with at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional supervision.
**GS-13 Specific Requirements:**
* Minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-12 level in federal service. Education cannot be substituted for this specialized experience.
* Volunteer experience (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) is considered qualifying experience.
