Lead strategic and digital communications for a large school district, building public trust and promoting key initiatives.
The Office of External Affairs seeks a dynamic Deputy Chief of Communications to lead strategic and digital communication efforts for DC Public Schools. This role is crucial for building public trust, enhancing district visibility, and promoting key initiatives through compelling, data-driven messaging.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Lead the development and execution of strategic communications campaigns for district priorities like enrollment, attendance, and student well-being.
- Advise senior leadership on message development and public-facing initiatives.
- Direct a district-wide editorial calendar to ensure coordinated and timely communications.
- Design and manage communication systems and approval workflows for consistent messaging across all channels (social media, websites, email, print, video).
- Monitor and report on campaign efficacy using digital analytics and stakeholder feedback.
- Supervise and develop a high-performing communications team.
- Oversee all digital and strategic communications, including photography, videography, graphic design, social media, newsletters, and website presence, ensuring brand alignment and accessibility.
- Stay abreast of best practices and emerging tools in communications, digital media, and SEO/SEM.
- *Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree and 8-12 years of related work experience. Master's degree preferred.
- Strong track record of translating programs and initiatives into compelling communications campaigns.
- Proven interpersonal and leadership skills in managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information concisely.
- Flexibility to staff occasional events on weeknights and weekends.
- Previous experience in the education sector is a plus.
- *Salary Range:** $154,623 - $162,454.
- *Residency Requirement:** If hired at an annual salary of $150,000 or more, DC residency is required within 180 days of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
