Summary

Oversee and manage ancillary clinical laboratory testing programs, ensuring compliance, quality, and technical expertise for patient care.

Join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Ancillary Testing, where you will play a crucial role in overseeing and optimizing testing programs outside the main laboratory. This GS-12 position requires a strong technical background and expertise in regulatory compliance to ensure high-quality patient care.

  • *Key Responsibilities:**
  • Develop and recommend policies/procedures for ancillary testing procurement and services.
  • Ensure CLIA licenses are maintained for all off-site facilities.
  • Consult with clinical services leadership to identify testing needs and integrate new technologies.
  • Serve as a recognized technical expert, providing authoritative advice, training, troubleshooting, and quality assessment for ancillary testing programs.
  • Create technical bulletins, procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure full accreditation and compliance with all regulatory agencies for patient testing, reporting, and proficiency testing.
  • Monitor and report on continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate testing activities to assess ongoing compliance with established protocols.
  • Identify, define, and resolve complex data and program management issues.
  • Perform instrument evaluations, conduct validation studies, and recommend policy changes.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions for identified deficiencies.
  • Coordinate inventory management, supply acquisition, and contracts.
  • *Required Qualifications:**
  • **Citizenship:** U.S. Citizen.
  • **Education:** Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • **Certification:**
* Generalist certification as an MLS or MT by ASCP BOC or AMT, or * Categorical or Specialist certification by ASCP or AMT (acceptable for relevant sections or higher-graded positions).
  • **Experience:** One year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):**
* Comprehensive understanding of medical technology concepts for testing program oversight. * Proficiency in mathematics and statistics for quality control, assurance, and improvement. * Knowledge of Federal, state, VHA laws, regulations, and accreditation requirements. * Familiarity with laboratory information technology systems and interconnectivity. * Ability to apply new scientific/technological developments to laboratory testing. * Skill in evaluating, interpreting, and teaching quality control procedures and corrective actions.

  • *Physical Requirements:**
This role involves moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), light carrying, extensive use of hands and fingers, walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling. Requires ability to distinguish colors, near vision, hearing (aid permitted), high cognitive function in a fast-paced environment, emotional stability, and ability to wear personal protective equipment.
