Job Description
Summary
Perform complex clinical lab testing, ensure quality control, and maintain instruments as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform advanced diagnostic testing and ensure high-quality laboratory operations.
- *Key Responsibilities:**
- Execute high-complexity patient testing across various clinical pathology services (e.g., chemistry, hematology, immunology, serology, coagulation, urinalysis, flow cytometry).
- Perform differentials on blood and body fluids.
- Establish and monitor quality controls for laboratory assays.
- Troubleshoot and conduct maintenance on testing instrumentation.
- Participate in proficiency testing to maintain national accreditation standards.
- *Qualifications:**
- *Basic Requirement (one of the following):**
- Bachelor's or higher degree in biological science, chemistry, or mathematics, plus successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) program.
- A 4-year course of study including 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program approved by a recognized accrediting organization.
- Bachelor's or higher degree with specific science coursework (16 sem. hrs. Biological Science, 16 sem. hrs. Chemistry, 1 sem. hr. Math) and five years of full-time acceptable clinical laboratory experience across multiple specialties (Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, Urinalysis/Body Fluids).
- *Specialized Experience:**
- One year of experience performing high-complexity patient testing within a Clinical Pathology Service/Core Laboratory, including quality control, instrument maintenance, and proficiency testing.
- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (or 3 full years of progressively higher graduate education) in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
- A combination of qualifying education and experience may also be accepted.
- *Preferred Certification:**
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical/Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/CLS) by ASCP, AMT, or a comparable board/registry is preferred.
- *Eligibility:**
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Note: Current federal employees in the 0644 occupational series continuously employed since September 27, 2017, may be exempt from the basic education/experience requirements.*
