## Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Ancillary Testing Coordinator) GS-12
Join our team as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist specializing in Ancillary Testing, ensuring high-quality patient care across off-site facilities. This role involves comprehensive oversight, policy development, and expert consultation for all testing conducted outside the main laboratory.
### Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for ancillary testing, including procurement and service requirements.
- Ensure continuous CLIA license compliance for all off-site facilities, such as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
- Serve as a technical expert, providing authoritative advice, training, troubleshooting, and quality assessment for ancillary testing programs.
- Consult with clinical leadership to identify testing needs, analyze emerging technologies, and adopt best practices.
- Develop and distribute technical bulletins, procedures, and training materials.
- Guarantee accreditation and regulatory compliance for patient testing, result reporting, and proficiency testing.
- Monitor continuous performance improvement initiatives and implement corrective actions for identified deficiencies.
- Evaluate testing activities, assess day-to-day compliance, and resolve complex issues within the ancillary testing management program.
- Perform instrument evaluations, validation studies, and recommend protocol changes to enhance program quality.
- Coordinate inventory management, supply acquisition, and associated contracts.
- *Basic Requirements:**
- **Citizenship:** Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- **Education:** Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- **Certification:** One of the following:
- *Grade Determinations (GS-12):**
- **Experience:** At least one (1) year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must include performing higher-level duties of significant scope, complexity, and variety for at least 25% of the time.
- *Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):**
- Expert knowledge of medical technology concepts, principles, and methodologies for overseeing testing programs outside the main lab.
- Proficiency in mathematics and statistics related to quality control, assurance, proficiency testing, inspection, and continuous quality improvement.
- Comprehensive understanding of Federal, state, VHA laws, regulations, and accrediting agency requirements for ancillary testing sites.
- Familiarity with laboratory information technology systems and interconnectivity.
- Skill in applying new scientific and technological advancements to laboratory testing.
- Ability to effectively evaluate, interpret, and teach quality control procedures and corrective action implementation.
- Ability to perform intermittent moderate lifting (15-44 lbs), light carrying, walking, standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling.
- Requires fine motor skills (fingers, both hands) and good vision (near vision, distinguish colors).
- Ability to work in an environment with constant noise, closely with others, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Maintain high cognitive function, accuracy, and emotional stability in stressful situations.
- Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment and potentially work rotating shifts.
