Job Description
Ensure air carrier safety and compliance through inspections and monitoring, leveraging extensive flight experience.
The Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) role involves ensuring compliance and safety within air carrier operations. This position requires a strong background in aviation, including significant flight experience and a deep understanding of regulations.
**General Requirements:**
* No more than two Federal aviation regulation violations in the last 5 years.
* Valid State driver's license.
* Fluency in English.
* No chemical dependencies or drug abuse affecting job performance.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
**Medical Requirements:**
* Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently.
* Good distant vision (glasses/contacts permitted) and ability to read typewritten characters.
* Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
* No physical condition that would create a hazard or interfere with flying as a passenger.
* **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid second-class FAA medical certificate and pass recurrent examinations.
* **For positions not requiring a valid second-class medical certificate:** Provide documentation from a board-certified physician or receive an individualized assessment if requirements are not met.
**Specific Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) Requirements:**
* Minimum 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight.
* Not more than two pilot-error flying accidents in the last 5 years.
* Demonstrated professional flying skill to Airline Transport Pilot Standard (via simulator check).
* Minimum 100 flight hours in the last 3 years.
* Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
* Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
* Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate (Note: Department of Navy positions may have additional physical requirements related to observing on aircraft and mishap investigations).
**Specialized Experience (Equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 grade level):**
One year of experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Aviation Safety Inspector, including:
* Inspection, surveillance, and monitoring of air carriers across all operational phases, including training programs and records.
* Providing guidance on developing required operations manuals and record-keeping systems.
* Analyzing reports to ensure compliance with operations programs.
* Conducting enforcement investigations and preparing final reports and recommendations on dispositions.
**Note:** Recency of specialized experience and the need for a valid second-class FAA medical certificate are waived for current employees in the 1825 series.
