Job Description
Ensure aviation safety and regulatory compliance as an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector, requiring extensive flight experience.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking dedicated Aviation Safety Inspectors to ensure compliance with aviation regulations and promote air safety. This critical role involves overseeing operations, conducting thorough inspections, and evaluating flight safety standards.
**General Eligibility Requirements:**
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid State driver's license.
* Fluency in English.
* Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last 5 years.
* No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
**Medical Requirements:**
* Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently, with or without reasonable accommodation.
* Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read typewritten characters (glasses/contact lenses permitted).
* Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
* No physical condition that would cause hazard to self or others, or interfere with flying as a passenger.
* **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate and pass recurrent medical examinations.
* **For positions not requiring aircraft operation:** Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying minimal medical requirements, or undergo individualized assessment.
**Specialized Experience & Certifications (Choose one primary area based on predominant work):**
**A. Predominant Work: General Aviation Operations**
* Valid, unexpired Flight Instructor Certificate with single and multi-engine airplane and instrument airplane ratings.
* Minimum 200 hours of flight instruction given in an aircraft.
* Professional flying skills demonstrated in a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating.
* Possession of Airline Transport Pilot Certificate OR Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
* Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
* Minimum 100 flight hours within the last 3 years.
* Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings.
* Not more than 2 pilot-error flying accidents in the last 5 years.
* Valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
**B. Predominant Work: Air Carrier Operations**
* At least 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft of more than 12,500 pounds maximum certificated takeoff weight.
* Professional flying skill demonstrated in a simulator check to Airline Transport Pilot Standard.
* Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
* Minimum 100 flight hours during the last 3 years.
* Airline Transport Pilot Certificate OR Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
* Not more than 2 pilot-error flying accidents during the last 5 years.
* Valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate.
**Experience for FG/GS-14 (FV-J) Level:**
* At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG/GS-13 (FV-I) level.
* This includes experience overseeing, implementing, and integrating various technical functions related to communication, navigation, surveillance, air traffic management, and national airspace activities.
* Experience conducting enforcement investigations, flight evaluations, inspections, and preparing final reports.
**Important Notes:**
* The recency of specialized experience (100 flight hours within last 3 years) and Second-Class Medical certificate requirements are waived for current and former FAA 1825 series employees.
