Job Description

Seeking an Aviation Safety Inspector to ensure airworthiness, conduct safety oversight, and provide technical guidance for aviation operations.
The Aviation Safety Inspector ensures compliance and safety across general aviation maintenance and avionics. This role involves technical guidance, certification, and oversight to enhance aviation safety. **General Qualifications:** * Valid State Driver's License. * Fluent in English. * High School Diploma or equivalent. * No more than two Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) violations in the last 5 years. * No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance. **Medical Fitness:** * Physically capable of performing duties safely (with/without accommodation). * Good distant vision and ability to read standard print (correctable). * Ability to hear conversational voice (correctable). * No physical conditions posing a hazard or interfering with flying as a passenger. * **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid Second-Class FAA Medical Certificate and pass recurrent exams. * **For positions NOT requiring a Second-Class Medical:** Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying medical fitness, or undergo an individualized assessment if requirements are not met. **Specialized Experience (FG-14):** * Minimum one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 in Federal Service, demonstrating: * Technical guidance for aviation certification and oversight. * Interpretation of data to identify methods enhancing aviation safety. * Guidance on certification and surveillance for FAR Part 121 air carrier/operators. **Avionics Specific Experience (when predominant work for Airworthiness positions):** * Experience in maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of installed avionics systems on aircraft. * Avionics maintenance experience on aircraft exceeding 12,500 lbs maximum certificated takeoff weight. * Recent (within last 3 years) avionics work experience (including supervision/auditing) in a repair station, air carrier, military, or government facility. **Important Notes:** * Recency of specialized experience and the second-class medical requirement are waived for current 1825 series employees. * Qualifications must be met by the vacancy closing date. * Applicants transferring between specialties at the same grade level are encouraged to use the appropriate Qualifications Assessment Tool (QAT) check sheet.
