Job Description
Join as an Aviation Safety Inspector, ensuring air carrier maintenance airworthiness and compliance with FAA regulations.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking Aviation Safety Inspectors to ensure the airworthiness and safety of air carrier maintenance operations.
**Key Responsibilities:**
* Assist, conduct, or perform technical functions related to certification, surveillance, and investigation.
* Prepare reports, including recommendations for disposition and enforcement activities for FAR Part 121 air carriers/operators.
* Ensure maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of large multi-engine aircraft (over 12,500 lbs) comply with airworthiness programs.
* Certify aircraft airworthiness.
**General Requirements:**
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Valid State driver's license.
* Fluency in English.
* No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that interferes with job performance.
* Not more than two separate incidents of Federal Aviation Regulations violations in the last 5 years.
**Medical Requirements:**
* Good distant vision in each eye and ability to read typewritten characters (with glasses/contacts permitted).
* Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
* No physical condition that poses a hazard to self or others or interferes with flying as a passenger.
* **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Possess a valid second-class medical certificate per FAA regulations and pass recurrent medical exams.
* **For positions not requiring a second-class medical certificate:** Provide documentation from a board-certified physician certifying minimal medical requirements, or undergo an individualized assessment if requirements are not met.
**Specialized Experience & Qualifications:**
* Minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-H, FG/GS-12 level.
* Experience must involve maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and systems of multi-engine aircraft (over 12,500 lbs) maintained under an airworthiness program.
* Experience gained in a repair station, air carrier/airline repair facility, military repair facility, or local, state, or Federal governmental agency.
* Experience includes responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
* Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years (waived for current FAA 1825 series employees).
* **Required:** FAA Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings. A copy of your certificate must be provided with your application.

* Qualifications must be met by the vacancy announcement closing date.
