Job Description
Ensure aviation safety as an Operations Inspector, requiring extensive pilot experience, FAA certifications, and regulatory expertise.
The Aviation Safety Inspector (Operations) ensures compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations, focusing on air carrier operations. This role demands highly experienced pilots with a strong regulatory understanding and commitment to aviation safety.
**Key Responsibilities (Implied Duties):**
* Conduct data quality reviews against established guidelines.
* Manage certificates under FAR Part 121, Part 135, or Part 129 foreign air carriers/air operators.
* Participate in aircraft operations and potentially mishap investigations.
**General Requirements:**
* No more than two FAA regulation violations in the last 5 years.
* Valid State driver's license.
* Fluency in English.
* No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
* High school diploma or equivalent.
**Medical Requirements:**
* Physically able to perform duties safely and efficiently.
* Good distant vision (glasses/contacts permitted).
* Ability to hear conversational voice (hearing aid permitted).
* No physical conditions that pose a hazard or interfere with flying as a passenger.
* **For positions requiring aircraft operation:** Valid second-class FAA medical certificate; pass recurrent medical exams.
* **For other positions:** Board-certified physician's documentation of meeting minimum medical requirements, or individualized assessment.
**Specialized Experience (Equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13 level):**
* Minimum 1 year of pilot experience in multi-engine aircraft over 12,500 pounds maximum takeoff weight.
* No more than 2 flying accidents with pilot error in the last 5 years.
* Professional flying skill demonstrated to Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) standard via simulator check.
* Minimum 100 flight hours within the last 3 years.
* Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating.
* Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate.
* Minimum 1,500 total flight hours.
* Experience with data quality review against established guidelines.
* Experience with certificate management FAR Part 121, Part 135, or Part 129 foreign air carriers/air operators.
**Required Certificates & Ratings:**
* General Aviation Operations specialty certificate and ratings. (Required for new FAA appointments in this specialty; current/previous 1825 series employees are exempt).
* Demonstrate proficiency in an airplane or simulator.
**Security Requirements:**
* Non-critical sensitive (2) position.
* Requires completion and favorable adjudication of a Tier 3 (T3) background investigation prior to appointment, unless waived.
